Adding new package/app to GVM

Kunal
What is the process to get an app available for distribution via GVM? is there any formal approval process or like?

The app will be standard groovy app generated with gradle application plugin so it has executable in bin/ dir and libraries in lib/ dir.

Hi,

We normally approve new candidates on the basis of:
1. It is not an application, but an SDK.
2. It is related to the Groovy ecosystem.
3. Has adoption and receivers requests for inclusion by the community.

What exactly would you like distributed on GVM? Could you send through some links to look at?

Cheers,
Marco.

It will be Gaelyk helper called glide - http://glide-gae.appspot.com/ Yes, its sdk in nature and not app.

On side note, Even can we consider adding google app engine java sdk to the list? there are various versions to manage and gvm can make it lot easier. It will bring dev_appserver in path, so people dont have to add it manually. Just a thought.

Great, that sounds like glide is a valid candidate for inclusion then. The app engine sdk on the other hand is not groovy specific, so I would not include it in GVM.

As a side not, you will need to ensure that the distribution zips comply with how all the other SDKs are packaged. They typically have a name as follows:

glide-1.0.0.zip

and will have an internal folder:

glide-1.0.0/

containing you SDK files.

Can I ask you to point me to where the zip distributions currently live?

Cool, Glide is packaged using Gradle application plugin, I'll write a task to create zip in the specified format.

Currently binaries are not there online, To get glide working it needs to be compiled on developers machine. And I am working on that right now to change the way its distributed. I'll provide you a hosted version of binary version (most likely on bintray) in some days.

I agree with you on GAE. Once GVM becomes xVM, we probably it may be a valid option then.

Sounds great, let me know when you're ready and I'll publish it.

Cheers,
Marco.

Hi Marco,

The package is ready now to be distributed through GVM.

Could you please see if it needs any changes http://dl.bintray.com/kdabir/apps/glide/glide-0.3.zip

If not could you please add it to GVM.

The app name is `glide`

Regards,

Kunal

Hi Kunal,

Sorry that I haven't been able to add glide yet. I will look at it this evening when I get back to the hotel. Looks like the wifi at the conference can't connect to anything that is not on a standard port.

I'll let you know when it's up.
Cheers,
Marco.
