MSYS Support for GVM

EdwardBeckett
Hello :: I'm running Win 7 32 bit with MinGW AND Msysgit ... I was successful in installing GVM with the curl install command --- Mysgit bash added the env_vars however I had to run /mingw/msys/1.0/msys.bat in order to invoke GVM ... moreover, once running the env_vars didn't pick up the current installation ...

Currently I already have GRADLE_HOME, GRAILS_HOME, JAVA_HOME & GROOVY_HOME set through windows

cmd -c "systempropertiesadvanced" environmental variables ....

Here's the output of env from the following shells

cmd.exe ...

=== ANT_HOME=C:\Ant\ant-1.8.4
=== COMSPEC=C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe
=== GRADLE_HOME=C:\Gradle\gradle-1.4
=== GRAILS_HOME=C:\Grails\Grails-2.2.0
=== GROOVY_HOME=C:\Groovy\groovy-2.0.5
=== JAVA_HOME=C:\java\jdk1.7.0_11
=== MAVEN_HOME=C:\Maven\apache-maven-3.0.4

bash.exe {msysgit}

=== TERM=cygwin
=== ENV_VARS Same as %COMSPEC%

bash.exe --login -i {msysgit}

=== TERM=cygwin
=== ENV_VARS Same as %COMSPEC%

powershell.exe

=== TERM=cygwin
=== ENV_VARS Same as %COMSPEC%

After installation and logging in through either sh --login -i or bash --login -i gvm isn't recognizing the msys ports ... I.E.

bash.exe": readlink: command not found
bash.exe": readlink: command not found
bash.exe": readlink: command not found
bash.exe": readlink: command not found
bash.exe": readlink: command not found

Q: Is is possible to add support for msys? That would make this tool even more awesome than it is :-)

Thanks in advance

Hi Edward,

At the moment we have no plans to support any other platforms beside bash (and zsh). We try to keep GVM as generic as possible so that it runs on any environment.

You might try not setting GRADLE_HOME, GRAILS_HOME etc, since GVM manages these on your behalf. JAVA_HOME is a prerequisite for GVM to function though.

If that doesn't work, you might try using Cygwin instead, as this runs bash and works with GVM out of the box.

Hope this helps some.
Regards,
Marco.
